Lynne Mulder has an her eye on a fifth term serving the residents of Red Deer.

With a seat on various boards and committees locally, Mulder, who was first elected in 2004, calls herself a community builder.

Fundraising for non-profit groups is one of her key interests and passions.

“I chaired United Way and brought in $2.3 million two years in a row,” said Mulder.

She said non-profit organizations have a hard time fundraising when there is a downturn in the economy.

Other organizations that she is involved with are: Vantage Community Services, Medicine River Wildlife Centre, and Red Deer and District Family and Community Support Services (FCSS).

Mulder says she still has the passion to carry on the work she has been involved with for more than a decade.

She is proud of her achievements during her time on council but mostly the work she has done in the past couple years like bridging the gap between Indigenous People and the City of Red Deer.

Mulder said she was part of the Urban Aboriginal Voices committee that developed a protocol for the way the city and Indigenous People can work together in Red Deer.

The city is working towards building a new aquatic facility. Council started to put money aside and save for a new pool, which is on the 2020 capital budget list, she said.

“For a city that prides itself for sports tourism, we must have that,” said Mulder.

Overall, she stands for support services and affordable housing.

A reduction in crime plays a part in her role as a councillor.

Safety is a concern to Mulder, especially for those in the downtown core.

She added although city council has worked together with the police, there is lot more work to be done.

If elected, Mulder said she can expect the community to be fiscally responsible, accountable and transparent.

Mulder retired from Red Deer College where she held several leadership roles, including vice-president of education.
