Murder charges laid against woman from the Sunchild First Nation

Rocky Mountain House RCMP have laid homicide charges against a 23-year-old female after finding a woman dead and a man injured on the Sunchild First Nation.

Police responded to a call of a person in distress on the First Nation at 2:36 a.m. Wednesday. RCMP arrived with EMS and a found a 25-year-old female victim deceased and a 24-year-old male injured.

The suspect was arrested at a different location without incident. The RCMP say the victims and the accused were known to one other.

An autopsy was held at the Edmonton office of the chief medical examiner and the death has been determined to be a homicide.

Chelsey Lagrelle, 23, of Sunchild First Nation, is charged with manslaughter in the death of Samantha Sharpe. Lagrelle is also charged with assault with a weapon.

She remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Rocky Mountain House on Wednesday.

The investigation continues, but RCMP are not seeking any other suspects.
