Harper changes course, decides to attend Copenhagen climate-change meeting
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Stephen Harper has done an about-face and will attend the Copenhagen climate-change meeting next month.
A spokesman said Harper decided today to attend after the American and Chinese presidents announced that they will show up.
The news comes a day after Harper said he would not go to Copenhagen.
The meeting to work on a new climate-change agreement runs Dec. 6-18, but it’s not clear when Harper will attend.
Canada has come under strong criticism internationally for reneging on the Kyoto climate protocol and for refusing to sign on to a new deal limiting greenhouse gases unless developing nations are included.
