Preliminary hearing set for Red Deer man accused of attempted murder

Preliminary hearing set in January

A Red Deer man charged with attempted murder in an August shooting will have a preliminary hearing in January.

Red Deer RCMP were called on Aug. 14 to reports that a 21-year-old woman had been taken to hospital just before noon with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to her leg and abdomen. She had been brought to hospital by friends.

A suspect was arrested two days later in Red Deer’s Creekside Estates Trailer Park near 34th Street and Gaetz Avenue.

Joshua Christopher Severin, 23, has been charged with attempted murder with a firearm, using a firearm to commit an indictable offence, pointing a firearm and possession of a prohibited firearm.

Severin’s preliminary hearing has been set for Jan. 6 in Red Deer provincial court.

Preliminary hearings can be requested to test the strength of the case against an accused.
