Calgary man rescued after avalanche in Banff National Park dies in hospital

LAKE LOUISE — A Calgary man who was rescued from an avalanche in Banff National Park has died in hospital.

The 38-year-old had been airlifted to hospital in critical condition on Saturday.

RCMP in Lake Louise say the man underwent surgery, but died Sunday night with his family by his side.

The family has requested that his name not be released.

The man was skiing with three other people in the area of Helens Shoulder when they triggered a slide that buried him.

His companions used beacons and probes to dig him out and performed CPR until EMS personnel arrived.

Another avalanche near Blue River, B.C., on the weekend killed a snowmobiler from Lloydminster, Sask.
