Girl’s campaign leads to fines for bullying in community
AIRDRIE — A campaign by a once-bullied teenager has led to new rules in a bedroom community just north of Calgary.
City council in Airdrie has voted to amend its public behaviour bylaw to fine bullies.
That includes verbal or physical abuse, threats, teasing and name calling, whether face-to-face or online.
Offenders face a $500 fine for the first offence and $1,000 for a second offence.
Mackenzie Murphy started a petition for stronger laws against bullying after she was victimized herself.
