Killing of Calgary man shot by friend with rifle was self-defence: police
CALGARY — Charges will not be laid against a Calgary man who shot and killed a good friend who had broken into his home.
Police and Crown lawyers say the death of Joseph Lesley Talbot in January was a non-culpable homicide.
Calgary police Staff Sgt. Doug Andrus says Talbot, who was 35, forced his way into a southeast home in January, made his way into a bedroom and was shot with a rifle during a struggle.
Andrus says it was not a random attack, as both Talbot and the other man were life-long friends who were involved in a long-term dispute.
Police determined Talbot forcibly entered the home, brandishing a knife.
There were several people in the home at the time.
