Man challenges photo radar ticket, finds mistake
EDMONTON — An Edmonton man who complained about a photo radar ticket that recorded him going seven kilometres per hour over the speed limit won’t have to pay the fine.
And neither will 157 others who got tickets on June 21 on Edmonton’s Rainbow Valley bridge.
That’s because Edmonton police Sgt. Barry Maron says the photo radar operator the officer didn’t check to verify the speed zone.
Maron says the operator mistook an 80 km-h zone for a 70 zone.
Matt O’Daly says he’s happy that he won’t have to shell out $71, the amount of his ticket, and that he questioned the ticket.
Maron says police will send out a letter to the 158 people letting them know the tickets are cancelled, but if someone has already paid, they can call police to get a refund.
