Sweet gas pipeline ruptures near Rocky

A TransCanada PipeLines Ltd. sweet natural gas pipeline ruptured north of Rocky Mountain House on Tuesday morning.

The break happened about 10 km north of Rocky Mountain House. The line has been shut down and there have been no safety issues.

National Energy Board (NEB)spokesperson Rebecca Taylor said the amount of gas released has not been determined yet. The rupture was discovered and reported by the company early Tuesday morning.

The nearest residence is located about a kilometre from the break and residents there were informed, but no evacuation was necessary.

An emergency response team from the NEB was on the scene by early afternoon.

“They’ll be looking into the initial response to the pipeline rupture. And then after that they’ll move into the investigation phase when they’ll be assessing the cause, and the contributing factors and what may have led to the pipeline rupture.”
