Thieves targeting truck tailgates

Lock your tailgate or you could lose it, Red Deer City RCMP are advising.

Four truck tailgates have been stolen in the city already this year. The thefts took place in January, in hotel and restaurant parking lots, at residences and at vehicle repair shops.

Last year, 16 tailgates were stolen in Red Deer. RCMP say these thefts are becoming more common across Alberta, and newer model trucks are the most common targets.

Most trucks come with a tailgate lock. RCMP advise truck owners to use the lock at all times, and further advise all vehicle owners to make a habit of locking vehicles, park in well-lit areas whenever possible, and remove all valuables from their vehicles.

Anyone with information that may assist the police in investigating tailgate thefts is asked to call Red Deer City RCMP at 403-343-5575.

If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477 or report it online at www.tipsubmit.com.
