The public is invited to share their comments with city council Tuesday on a proposal to rezone the Quality Inn to allow residential units.

The hotel’s owners want to convert some or all of the 114 hotel rooms into apartment-style housing.

Council will hear from citizens at the public hearing scheduled for Tuesday regarding the rezoning of the hotel, located at 7150-50 Ave.

The three-storey hotel (formerly North Hill Inn) would have to be rezoned from C4 Commercial (Major Arterial) District to C5 Commercial (Mixed Use) District.

Four neighbours have expressed concerns about the proposed conversion.

The public hearing comes after council approved first reading of the proposed rezoning on April 25.

Alberta’s COVID-19 meeting regulations means people can only participate over the phone. City Council will hear from anyone claiming to be affected by the rezoning at the hearing starting at 5 p.m.

Each person will be allowed to address council for five minutes. The five minutes does not include the time required to answer questions from council.
