Supporters of midwifery will gather at Red Deer City Hall on Friday to celebrate the birthing service and call for more funding.

Birth and midwifery consumers will rally from noon to 1 p.m. to advocate for better access to the service. They will demonstrate the importance and impact of midwifery and the need for additional funding, say organizers.

Midwives, consumers and other participants at the rally will also take part in a dance in support of midwives at 12:30 p.m. — an event that’s happening around the globe.

Friday is the International Day of the Midwife.
