RCMP arrest teen with a gun driving a stolen vehicle

A 16-year-old girl with a sawed-off shotgun driving a stolen vehicle were among those arrested by Red Deer RCMP over the last three days.

Others were charged with property crimes including possession of a stolen vehicle, drug and fraud offences.

Police said shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Monday, a 16-year-old girl was arrested after a stolen SUV fled from police. Police did not pursue the vehicle due to public safety concerns and teen was located soon afterward.

The vehicle was reported stolen in Red Deer on Sunday.

The teen was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, unauthorized possession of firearm, possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized, occupying a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm in it, possessing a loaded prohibited firearm, resisting a peace officer, possessing stolen property over $5,000, and mischief under $5,000.

She made her first appearance in court on Monday and returns to court on Thursday.

Police said on Sunday afternoon, RCMP located two suspects near a stolen Jeep. They were found in possession of property stolen from the vehicle, including the vehicle owner’s credit card.

The vehicle was reported stolen from Edmonton.

A 21-year-old man was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and possession of stolen credit card.

He appeared in Red Deer provincial court on Monday and was released on bail. He is scheduled to return to court on April 21.

A 23-year-old man was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and failing to comply with conditions by possessing a knife.

He was remanded into custody and appeared in court on Monday. He will appear in court again on Friday.

Police said shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday they located a man in possession of the opioid pain medication hydromorphone following a complaint of suspected drug activity in a parking lot in north Red Deer.

A 36-year-old man with outstanding warrants in Edmonton was charged with drug possession and three counts of failing to comply with conditions. He appeared in Red Deer court on Monday. His next appearance is scheduled for Thursday.

Also on Saturday, Red Deer RCMP said they located a woman who allegedly used stolen identification to falsify vehicle purchase papers and register a vehicle. A 40-year-old woman was charged with two counts of failing to comply with conditions, three counts of knowingly using a forged document, and failing to comply with probation.

She was remanded into custody and was set to appear in court on Monday.
