Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint in Red Deer

Police looking for witnesses

Red Deer RCMP need help identifying a suspect who robbed a taxi driver at knifepoint at about 8 p.m. on Feb. 2.

Police said a taxi driver flagged down an officer patrolling the area near 50th Street and 50th Avenue to report he was robbed by a customer.

The driver said after picking up two men at a gas station in Riverside Meadows at 7:45 p.m., he drove them to several destinations before one man got out of the taxi. While the taxi was southbound on Gaetz Avenue, between 52nd and 53rd Street, the remaining suspect displayed a knife, demanded cash, got out of the taxi and fled on foot.

RCMP have surveillance images of the suspect who is described as Caucasian, between 25 to 30 years old, with scars on his cheeks and under his eyes. He wore a ball cap, a dirty black jacket over a hoodie, and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or report it online at
