RCMP vehicle rammed 15 times in traffic stop

Man and woman facing nearly two dozen charges in connection with April 26 traffic stop

Red Deer RCMP have laid nearly two dozen charges after an RCMP vehicle was rammed 15 times following a traffic stop last Friday.

Police said officers received a suspicious vehicle report about 2:30 p.m. When police arrived at a parking lot on the north side of Red Deer near 74th Street and Gaetz Avenue two suspects were seen standing by a vehicle.

It is alleged the two then got into the vehicle and used it to ram repeatedly the police vehicle blocking it from behind.

The two suspects fled on foot but were quickly arrested.

The incident was caught on video and posted to Instagram.

On Tuesday, RCMP said 15 charges had been laid against a 27-year-old Red Deer woman and a 30-year-old Red Deer man.

The woman was charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon, resisting arrest, dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of stolen property, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm, careless use of a firearm, impaired driving and two counts of failing to comply with a court release order.

The man has been charged with unauthorized possession of firearm, knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm, careless use of a firearm, possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, resisting arrest, possession of identity documents and common nuisance.

Both suspects are due in Red Deer Court of Justice on May 1.
