A Red Deer County seniors facility has put the breaks on visitors after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

Lisa Manning, general manager of The Hamlets at Red Deer, said the worker’s last shift was Nov. 17.

“The team member works the night shift, so it is low risk. However, we are taking it seriously and following all protocol,” said Manning.

Contact tracing has been completed internally and outside of the Gasoline Alley facility, Manning said.

“We’ve been under direction from public health to isolate all residents until the swabbing is completed,” she said.

Swabbing of residents and staff starts Tuesday.

Manning said how long visits at the facility will be paused will depend on what medical health officers say.

“That’s why we’re trying to swab as quickly as possible, to get all of the information back, so we don’t have a lengthy pause on visitors.”
