Red Deer diner plans on shifting to patio dining

A Red Deer diner that planned to stay open despite government restrictions is now looking to offer outdoor dining instead, after being told continuing to offer dine-in services could lead to their business licence and food handling permits being revoked.

A Red Deer diner that planned to stay open despite government restrictions is now looking to offer outdoor dining instead, after being told continuing to offer dine-in services could lead to their business licence and food handling permits being revoked.

A post on the Mom’s Diner Facebook page states it is taking time to get outdoor tables for patio dining and heaters.

“We just booked a 10-by-20 party tent for a month,” a comment from the Mom’s Diner Facebook page said.

The ’50s-style diner, located in West Park, posted a screenshot of a notice they received from Alberta Health Services. The notice states any bar, restaurant or lounge choosing to offer indoor dine-in services may face enforcement actions.

The restrictions only allow these establishments to offer takeout, delivery and outdoor patio dining at this time.
