Red Deer Emergency Services fire-medics and other staff will get a mostly retroactive pay increase of seven per cent over four years.

On Monday, city council ratified the deal with the International Association of Fire Fighters, which represents more than 200 emergency services personnel.

The deal includes a one per cent increase retroactive to July 1, 2019, two per cent to July 1, 2020, two per cent to Dec. 31, 2021 and two per cent on Dec. 31, 2022.

“The previous agreement expired on June 30, 2019, however, COVID and the overall operational capacity of all involved in the negotiations, were significant factors in negotiation delays resulting in an agreement not being able to be finalized until now,” says the city in a news release.

The new collective agreement includes a reduction in overtime provisions from a two-hour minimum to 30-minute intervals for extension of shifts, and shift differential compensation.
