The Red Deer Hospice Society is set to hold its annual butterfly release fundraiser later this month.

Red Deerians can purchase a live butterfly to release in remembrance of a loved one, to celebrate a milestone in life or to give hope to someone who needs it, all in the name of supporting end of life care in Central Alberta.

“Every year we host a memorial butterfly release to remember and celebrate with the families who have had someone journey through Hospice in the previous year. We knew there were people in our community who wanted to continue the tradition as well as celebrate new chapters in their lives,” said Jerri Taylor, Executive Director at the Red Deer Hospice Society.

“We are honoured to share this tradition that is so special to Hospice while also creating a greater connection with our community.”

All butterflies released will be of the Painted Lady variety. This is a thoughtful choice as they are natural to our area and are beneficial pollinators, helping maintain our flowering plants and habitat.

Butterflies are $25 each and can be purchased online at www.reddeerhospice.com until May 27. All orders will be individually packed and distributed via curbside pick up on Friday, June 24.
