Council incumbent Lawrence Lee wants to see all neighbourhoods grow in Red Deer.
“It starts with neighbourhoods, and neighbourhoods build a city,” said Lee, who is vying for a second term on council.
Lee has advocated for a safe and connected community for the past four years.
He stands for engaging the community and developing the local economy, one neighbourhood at a time.
Looking ahead to the next four years, Lee knows there’s a lot of work to be done – both economically and socially.
Lee is responsible for the motion to re-evaluate Red Deer and Central Alberta Economic Partnership (CAEP).
Community engagement is important to him. He said when he talks to people, they bring up concerns like making Red Deer a safer city, improving health care and bringing cardiac care units to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
Lee knows health care falls under the province’s jurisdiction. But as a councillor, he believes in advocating for services that are at provincial and federal levels.
“We are looked at as a third largest city (in Alberta), and we need to have services that align with that title,” he added.
He believes with his experience as a councillor for the past four years, Red Deerians will benefit further should they elect him again.
“It’s certainly taught me a lot more about complexities involved in city politics, so it’s been a great learning experience,” he said.
While making decisions, he asks himself questions like “Does this benefit Red Deer now or in the future?”
