A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been declared for Red Deer on Thursday by Environment and Climate Change Canada.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail,” states the alert.

Severe thunderstorms are possible later this afternoon and evening. This kind of watch is issued when there is danger of hail causing property damage or injury. Atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of thunderstorms that can produce large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall.

Red Deerians are advised to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
