A Grade 8 teacher at St. Patrick’s Community School was selected as Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools’ nominee for the Alberta School Board Association 2024 Edwin Parr Award for Zone 4.

Kaitlyn McCulloch was nominated for the award that honours six outstanding first-year kindergarten to Grade 12 teachers who have taught in a ASBA member school board.

St. Patrick’s principal Mandy Reed said McCulloch’s passion for teaching and commitment to student success have set her apart since she joined the school community in August 2023.

“Kaitlyn’s innovative and engaging teaching methods have created a positive and dynamic learning environment in her classroom. She has embraced our school goal of authentic student engagement by bringing in guest speakers, planning dissections, labs, and field trips to make science come alive,” said Reed, in a statement.

“Kaitlyn goes beyond traditional teaching methods to understand each student’s unique learning style, fostering a sense of inclusivity and support.”

“I take great pride in representing our division. Merely being considered for the Edwin Parr Award is a noteworthy achievement. At the gala, I look forward to representing Red Deer Catholic and celebrating the successes of all those nominated,” McCulloch said.

Red Deer Catholic school board chair Murray Hollman said the board was extremely proud to select McCulloch.

“As a new teacher, her dedication and exceptional skill set are clear indicators of her potential and commitment to excellence in education. We are truly fortunate to have a teacher of Kaitlyn’s calibre among us, setting high standards for both her students and peers alike,” Hollman said.

The 2024 ASBA Edwin Parr Award Zone 4 winner will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held on May 27 at the Innisfail Golf Club.
