Back in 2012, a central Alberta teacher set a goal for himself: to win an award.

And now he has.

Ryan Beck is the regional recipient of the Canadian Association of Physicists’ award for excellence in high school teaching.

“I set my heart on the award in 2010 and worked at it since then, because I see it as the highest honour a high school physics teacher can achieve,” said the Chinook’s Edge School Division educator.

“It has been my goal to become a teacher worthy of this honour, because that is the minimum my amazing students deserve.”

The association says Beck, who has 18 years of teaching experience, is deserving of the recognition for his tireless efforts in promoting physics and science in general at Sundre High School.

He has acquired five grants totalling $50,000 to purchase materials and equipment that have helped students with hands-on learning, it says.
