A man accused of a fatal shooting at a Red Deer apartment building last Friday made his first court appearance on Wednesday.

Lance Michael Bilsky, 45, has been charged with second-degree murder and appeared in Red Deer Court of Justice through a video link from Red Deer Remand Centre.

RCMP were called with a report that shots had been fired in an apartment building on Parke Avenue about 3:50 p.m. last Friday.

When officers arrived, they saw a male suspect running from the area. After a short foot chase the suspect was arrested and a firearm seized, said police.

A second male suspect, Corey Duane Archer, 46, was also located near the scene and arrested and has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Other officers arriving on scene found the body of 54-year-old Red Deer resident Jason Cory Worobec.

Bilsky remains in custody and is due back in court on April 9. Archer appeared in court on Monday and is to return on April 2.

The case of the man accused of a November Red Deer homicide was also in court Wednesday.

A preliminary inquiry was set for Jan, 7, 9-10, 2025 for Red Deer’s Christopher Furgason, 32. He has been charged with manslaughter with a firearm.

Furgason was charged on Nov. 24, 2023, after RCMP responding to a firearms complaint in Riverside Meadows at about 1:30 p.m., found the body of Red Deer’s Shaeleigh Jahner, 26.

Furgason was arrested six hours later and charged.
