Thief steals in seniors home

Suspect stole money from women’s purse in Anders seniors complex.

Red Deer RCMP are asking for help identifying a man who broke into an apartment in an Anders seniors complex on Monday morning.

Police say that shortly after 8 a.m. they responded to a report that a man armed with a knife had gone into the apartment of an 81-year-old woman in the Victoria Park seniors residence at 9 Avery Street.

“The victim surprised the suspect, who fled the room with cash he had taken from her purse, dropping a knife on his way out,” said RCMP.

The victim was not injured during this incident, but was taken to hospital to be checked before being released.

RCMP searched the area but the suspect was gone.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, about 1.75 m (five-foot-nine) with a slim build. He was wearing a big parka, tinted glasses and dark pants.
