A preliminary hearing began in Red Deer provincial court on Monday morning for two men charged in connection with a 2016 stabbing death.

Andrew Dwayne Werth and Bill Georgopoulos, are each facing charges of manslaughter and accessory to murder.

They were charged in connection with the death of Alan Beach, 31, during a brawl outside a Village Mall pub about 9 p.m. on Nov. 18, 2016.

Daniel Boyd Sawyer is facing a charge of second-degree murder. His three-week jury trial is scheduled to run Nov. 13-30, 2018 in Red Deer.

A preliminary hearing is held to determine if there is enough evidence to send a case to trial. It is often used to test the strength of a Crown prosecutor’s case.
