Two people were arrested in Rimbey after police found a loaded firearm and a stash of crystal meth in their vehicle.

At about 11:40 p.m. Sunday, a male driver and female passenger were stopped for a traffic infraction in the town. Police found the 42-year-old male to be in violation of a parole condition, and he was arrested.

A search of the vehicle revealed a handgun with ammunition, bear spray, and what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine. Those items were seized by the RCMP.

The 17-year-old female passenger, from Red Deer, was wanted on an arrest warrant out issued by Blackfalds RCMP. Following her arrest, she was also found in possession of what seemed to be crystal meth. Since she’s a youth, she cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Both the male and the female are now facing charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of possession for the purpose of trafficking, as well as charges of possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

The male is also facing charges of possession of a firearm while prohibited. He is in custody and will have his bail appearance on April 7 in the Provincial Court of Alberta in Rimbey. The youth also remains in custody with her bail appearance set over as well.
