Dianne Wyntjes says she is in touch with Red Deerians and knows what they want from the next council.

This is why she’s focusing on homelessness, housing and mental health.

Wyntjes, who is seeking a third term on council, said she knows there’s no “I” in team.

She said no matter your personal platform, at the end of the day, all councillors need to work together to pass motions.

“I think when a council gets elected you put together your ideas and you prioritize them,” she said.

Crime prevention, advocating for women and working with community agencies are part of her mandate.

Other issues include: safety, ongoing maintenance of the city such as roads and infrastructure, potholes and water sustainability and water quality.

Some of the highlights of her political career include her support motion for missing and murdered Aboriginal women. This was something Wyntjes advocated for, even before the former-Harper government started working on it, she said.

A day she will probably never forget is when former premier Jim Prentice decided to keep Michener Centre open. This was something Wynjtes felt strongly about.

As a councillor, she enjoys working closely with community agencies such as the Welcoming and Inclusive Community, Central Alberta Refugee Effort and hundreds of volunteers raising concerns about the environment.

She is a strong advocate for supporting women in their endeavours and supports and encourages women in politics. Wyntjes said she listens and learns from the community and does her homework so she makes informed decisions.

Wyntjes has 30 years of service with the Canadian Union of Public Employees. She is married to Allan and she has many family members in Red Deer and Alberta. She has held several board positions over the years including Red Deer College Alumni Board.
