STRYKER Aaldert Jan "John" Stryker passed away suddenly with his children by his bedside at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the age of 74 years. He was born in Hoogeveen, Holland in 1931 and immigrated to Canada in 1958 with his young family. In later years, the family included three more sons. John loved to putter around in his greenhouse and visit family and friends. Creation from a seedling, a gift from God, was a constant source of pride, wonderment and joy for him. Most people remember John for his mechanical craftsmanship and he loved tending to his cars. During his retirement, he spent time caring for his children and grandchildren and their car problems. John leaves to mourn his loss, his daughter, Jacqueline, and his four sons, and their families, John (Kim) and Nathan, John and Daniel; Richard (Becky) and Jordan, Sunny and Joshua; Aubrey (Donna) and Amanda, Christina and Douglas; and Robert (Hetty-Ann) and Marissa, Jared and Tori. John was predeceased by his mother in 1978, his father in 1994, his brother in 1999 and the love of his life, his wife, Grace in 2002. He is also survived by a brother, Reinder "Henny" Stryker; two sisters, Geesje (Kees) van Daalen and Petronella (Rieks) Karst, several nieces and nephews and their families of Holland and Australia, Dianne Meyerink (the late Frederik Meyerink) and nieces and nephews and their families in British Columbia. He is also remembered by his lady friend, Maria Mazerolle during the last years of his life. A Public Celebration of John's Life will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church, 16 McVicar Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, March 3, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Alto-Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta.
