GRIFFITH After a wonderful time at a family and school reunion, Beryl Maude Griffith (nee Askin) of Red Deer passed away suddenly at the age of 79 years on Sunday, July 10, 2005 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her husband Bert Griffith, her parents Berva and Charles Askin (formerly of the Burnside District, Manitoba) and her brother Russ Askin and his wife, Marg. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Darlene (Wayne) Fleury and her son Bob Higgins, all of Red Deer; grandchildren Ryan (Linda) Fleury of Vancouver, Melanie (Cody) Fleury of Red Deer, Sara (Chris) Fleury of Kelowna and Cameron Fleury of Red Deer; great grandchildren Levi, Whitney and Gabrielle; brothers Ken (Betty) Askin and Edgar (Beverly) Askin all of Vancouver; sisters Francis of Arizona and Joyce (Marv) Duncan of Cold Lake, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Beryl was born in the Burnside District, Manitoba and raised in Portage la Prairie, graduating from PCI in 1942. She spent her young adult life in Portage and raised her family. Beryl and Bert moved west and lived in various places in both British Columbia and Alberta. Most recently, she retired to Red Deer to be near her daughter, grand children and great grand children. Beryl and her daughter Darlene had returned to Portage for the reunion and to reunite with and visit Beryl’s sisters, family and friends. She enjoyed going down memory lane and visiting the homesteads. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Beryl Maude Griffith will be conducted from the Chapel of the Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67A Street, Red Deer, AB on Friday, August 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Brenda Watts, Funeral Celebrant, officiating. Urn interment will follow at the Alto Reste Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Beryl Griffith may be directed to The Central Alberta Woman’s Emergency Shelter, Box 561, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 5G1.
