Al LAWRENCE

June 14, 2007

LAWRENCE Al Roy "Wyzard" Lawrence of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on May 28, 2007 at the age of 61 years. Al was born in Rocky Mountain House and grew up near Pine Lake until the family moved to Red Deer. He attended Lindsay Thurber High School, Valley Technical College in Toronto and Chicago Electrical Engineers College where he graduated with top honours. Throughout his life, if he saw a way to make something easier, he usually invented a way to do it. In 1985 he married his teenage sweetheart and on June 8 of this year they would have celebrated their twenty-second anniversary. They loved to travel together and made sure, even in hard times, to have a holiday. Al was an only child but he leaves many spiritual brothers and sisters by whom he was respected and loved. He was a Lt. Air Cadet, a safety motorcycle instructor for twenty-three years, a member of the Alberta Gold Prospector's Association and the Long Shot Gold Prospector's Club. Al lost part of his leg in 2002 but even then, he became an inspiration to others with his attitude and faith. He will be greatly missed and remembered by all that knew him. Al will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife, Marjorie, two sons; Robert of Big Valley and Timothy of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, two daughters; Dawn of Alix and Shannon of Calgary, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was also greatly loved by two brothers-in-law; Kenneth Farr of Red Deer and Wes Daniels of New Serepta. Al was predeceased by his parents, Arthur Laurie and Estella Lawrence and his first wife, Judy. A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #35 (2810 Bremner Avenue) on Friday, June 15, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Richard Duffin officiating. Tributes and memories will be welcome at the Memorial Service and the family requests, casual dress please. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Mr. Al Lawrence can do so to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #35, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alberta Gold Prospector’s Association.
