SCOTT Alan Varcoe July 16, 1937 - Sept. 11, 2008 It is with great sadness the family of Alan Scott announce his sudden death on September 11 at the age of 71. Alan was a lifelong resident of Red Deer, with only brief stints living in Regina and Edmonton. Never one to sit still long, Alan kept busy during his working years devoting many hours to Kinsmen, The Economic Development Association of Canada, skiing and golfing; after retirement, volunteering with different organizations, and, laterally, with his little buddy Graeme and honing his art skills with Gillian. Alan is survived by his best friend and wife Donna, son Patrick and daughter-in-law Sandra; daughter Krista and son-on-law Scott and two grandchildren Gillian and Graeme. He was predeceased by his mother Lillian, and brother John. If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to a charity of their choice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to Doctor Hulyk, the nursing staff in the Intensive Care Unit and Unit 22 for the wonderful care they gave Alan, and a special thank you to the anonymous person who stopped to help Alan on the walking trail. Your kindness and compassion will forever be remembered. Following a private service, a Reception will be held in honor of Alan at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club on Friday September 19 from 1:30 - 4:00 pm.
