Aletha BRYSON

April 1, 2005

BRYSON Aletha Mahala (Letha) Bryson went to be with her Lord, Saturday March 26th, 2005 at 1:20 a.m. at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 97 years. She was born in Monroe County, Wisconsin May 6, 1907 to Daniel and Myrtie Aebly. Letha moved with her family to the Brooks, Alberta area as a toddler. Her formative years were spent on the farm near Jenner, AB until she attended Normal School for teachers in Calgary. In 1928, Letha married Alonzo C Bryson and resided in and around that area. While there, Ernest and Mahala were born to them. The family moved to the Westward Ho area, then with the aid of horses, Alonzo moved the livestock and machinery to the site. In 1932, their final home together was at James River where John was born. Unfortunately, Alonzo died in 1937, leaving Letha and her three children on the farm. Letha was a great gardener and was creative with her carding, spinning, knitting, sewing and cooking. She kept cows, sheep and chickens and sold cream, butter and eggs and paid off the mortgage and taxes on the farm. Letha left the farm in 1953 to take a Nursing Aide course in Calgary. Although she nodded off in some classes, her high grades surpassed the younger students. The Red Deer Hospital was her work place for 17 years, and she retired at age 65 under protest. Letha has enjoyed her 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and many more who called her Grandma. She also supported many children through World Vision. She can be remembered by her hundreds of quilts, afghans, sweaters, socks, mitts and other crafts as well as her love of reading. Letha was predeceased by her husband Alonzo, daughter Elizabeth, daughter-in-law Joyce Bryson, grandson Daniel Johnson, sister Florence Aebly, brothers; Dan, Raymond, Ernest and Edwin. She is survived by her three children; Ernie (Doreen) Bryson, Mahala (Gordon) Johnson, and John (Vicki) Bryson; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren as well as a brother Alvin Aebly. A Funeral Service for Letha Bryson will be held at CrossRoads Church, 38105 Range Road 275, Red Deer County (on 32nd Street, west of Hwy. #2) on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dan Cochrane officiating.
