MATTHEW Alfred "Clive" On February 3, 2008, Alfred Clive Matthew of Birchcliff, Alberta passed away at the age of 78 years. Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Doreen; children: Jill (Kevin), Douglas (Pam) and Glen (Helen); grandchildren: Jesse, Janine, Janessa, Julia and Kalli; cousin, Norman (Lorrie); Aunt Jean; and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents: Alfred and Maude Matthew. Clive will be forever loved and sadly missed by his family and friends. Clive was born on November 9, 1929. Growing up in Calgary, he developed his athletic skills, excelling in the 100 m hurdles and football. A graduate of the Central High School in Calgary, he continued his studies at the University of Alberta and received a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1953. Clive then pursued a career as a junior executive with Intercontinental Packers in Toronto. In 1954, he returned to Calgary. He joined Henderson, Waines and Anderson, which merged with Price Waterhouse and obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1957. Clive joined Mackenzie, Sheridan and Company in Red Deer and was admitted to the Partnership in 1958. Later, he became the senior partner of the firm Matthew, Craig, Davies, Collins, retiring in 1994. Clive and Doreen enjoyed their retirement years at Sylvan Lake and their trips abroad with dear friends. Clive was active in the community - a member and secretary of the Kinsmen Club, a founding member and President of the Red Deer YMCA, a Family Services Bureau volunteer, member of the Executive Committee of the United Fund of Red Deer, and a Councillor of the Summer Village of Birchcliff. Clive's hobbies were fixing up old cars, listening to classical music, sailing, skiing and golfing. Clive's family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. J. L. Myburgh, Dr. R. Smith, staff at the Sylvan Lake Medical Clinic and Red Deer Regional Hospital - Unit 31 for their care and compassion. Honoring Clive's request, a private family funeral service will be held. Friends and family are invited to join in a time of remembrance and fellowship on Friday, February 8 at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club between 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Canada (www.als.ca) or A.L.S.
