HOVEN, Allen On May 11, 2006, Allen was called home to his Lord, Our Father. Al was born in Sylvan Lake on February 14, 1937 and raised on the family farm at Eckville. He was a man of strong Christian faith, dedicated to his God, his family and friends, and his faith community. He was an avid music lover and spent many years as an organist at his church. He loved to travel and organized many family trips. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife and best friend of forty-eight years, Selma (nee Dahl). Also surviving are his sons: Gary and Joanne and grandson Waylon, David and Margaret (Meridith and Nathan), daughter Susan and embraced daughter Michelle; his brothers Roy (Eileen), Cecil (Carol), Brian (Karen) and Ted; Selma's brothers and sisters, Ina (Al Selin), Alvin (Audrey), Arnold (Matilda), Blaine (Marilyn), Carol (Roman Johns), Diane (Willard Turner), Dwayne Graham (Sheila), Wayne Graham, Shirley (Bruce Johnson); and all their families; and a host of friends. Also surviving are two aunts, Nellie and Margaret Collier, and many cousins in the Red Deer area as well as Selma's aunts, uncles and cousins. Al was predeceased by his parents, Adolf and Dorothy Hoven, as well as by Selma's parents. Prayer services will be held on Sunday, May 14, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Angela's Catholic Church, 13210 133A Avenue, Edmonton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 15, 2006 at 2:00 p.m., with Father Martin Moser officiating at St. Angela's Church. If so desired, donations in Allen's memory may be made to the Newman Theological College, the Cross Cancer Institute or a charity of one's choice.
