ALLEN 1913 - 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sigrid Allen, at the Red Deer Hospital Centre on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the age of 94 years. Sigrid was one of nine children raised in New Norway by Sievert and Signe Malmo. In her earlier years Sigrid enjoyed curling, dancing, and spending time with her large family, her children and their families as well as her brothers and sisters and their families. Sigrid and Joe were married in 1939 and prior to Joe going overseas in WWII, they were stationed in Niagara Falls. They spent fifty years with the CIBC, which allowed them to live in many places, New Norway, Wetaskwin, Sangudo, Mayerthorpe, Spruce Groove and Calgary before they retired to Red Deer in 1977. Sigrid was actively involved with The Royal Purple and the Eastern Star during the years that she lived in Mayerthorpe. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who took pride in her cooking and home making skills used to provide for her family. Sigrid leaves to mourn her two loving daughters, Elaine (Don) McKay, Dianne (Larry) Morrison, her loving son, Robert (Barbara) Allen, five grandchildren, Brenda (Kelly) Radatzke, Sherry (Jerry) Hedlund, David (Carla) McKay, Terri (Dan) Basterash, Chris (Leslie) Morrison, nine great grandchildren, Justin and Kristin Radatzke, Ashlynn and Hannah Morrison, Hayley, Payton and Logan Basterash, Kala and Quinn McKay, a sister, Lois Lindholm, a brother Roy Malmo, sisters-in-law, Doris Malmo, Joyce Malmo, Jean Allen, Lillian Sullivan, a brother-in-law, Lloyd Allen and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Joseph in 1999, two brothers, Swerre (Francis), Oscar, four sisters, Gunda (Jack), Ione (Ted), Elsie (Erwin), Edie (Ken) and her parents, Sievert and Signe Malmo. The family would like to express our thanks and appreciation to Dr. McIntyre, Dr. Henderson and Dr. Hamilton and a special thank you to the nurses and support staff on Unit 33 for their excellent care. A Memorial Service will be held at Eventide Funeral Chapels, 4820-45 Street, Red Deer on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation entrusted to Central Alberta Crematorium. Memorial donations in Sigrid's honour may be made directly to the charity of one's choice.
