Arnold GILLIES

GILLIES Arnold Gillies passed away Oct. 21, 2006 at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife Jean of 57 years and his children Cathy (Don Stone), Susan (Jim Bradley), Rod (Jenny Ackerman), and Jim. He is also survived by his grandchildren Peter, Derek and Margo Stone, David and Kate Bradley, Evan and Owen Gillies and his sister Donna (Roger Angus). Born in Emo, Ontario, Arnold moved to Alberta as a child. He left home at 15 to work in the north before joining the navy at 18. After the war he trained as an electrician. For most of his life he ran his own businesses in Athabasca, Yorkton and lastly as a Texaco Wholesale Distributor in Red Deer. He will be remembered for his active community involvement with the Royal Canadian Legion, the Athabasca and Yorkton Chambers of Commerce, the Yorkton City council, the Lions Club and the Red Deer Westerner Exhibition. He was an ardent golfer and a reluctant traveller. At his request no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Loaves and Fishes, 6002 - 54 Ave. Red Deer, T4J 1L1.
