ATHANASOPOULOS Mrs. Stavroula Athanasopoulos, beloved wife of Mr. Nick Athanasopoulos of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the age of 74 years. Stavroula’s memory will be cherished by her husband Nick; her two sons Peter (Linda) Athanasopoulos and Jim Athanasopoulos as well as by her grandchildren: Alyssa, Nicholas and Vasili. Her memory will be further cherished by her brother Louie (Joanne) Karkambasis and sisters: Athena Manolakos, Anna (Steve) Adraktas and Freda (Ted) Sotiropolous. Stavroula was predeceased by her parents George and Helen Karkambasis, her brother Dimitre Karkambasis and sister Vasiliki McLeod. Stavroula was born in Koumousta, Greece on March 11, 1931. She grew up in the area before moving to Canada in 1954. She married Nicholas Athanasopoulos in Toronto in 1956 before moving to Alberta in 1961. Stavroula and Nicholas moved to Red Deer in 2002. She will be remembered for her selfless, giving and loving nature. Those wishing to pay their respects to Stavroula Athanasopoulos are invited to join the family for a time of visitation at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67A Street, Red Deer on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. Funeral Services for Mrs. Stavroula Athanasopoulos will be conducted from the Chapel of the Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Alto Reste Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations in memory of Stavroula Athanasopoulos may be directed to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, Suite 301, 21 St. Clair Avenue East, Toronto, ON M4T 1L9. In living memory of the late Mrs. Stavroula Athanasopoulos, a tree will be planted in the Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium Memorial Tree Park.
