BANISTER Mrs. Margaret Banister of Red Deer, beloved wife of the late Dr. Robert D. Banister, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at the age of 85 years. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Karen (Bob) Zmurchyk and Laurie (Dick) McKinley, both of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren, Michael (Jemma) Zmurchyk, Kate Zmurchyk, Mathew Zmurchyk, Alan McKinley, and Kristine McKinley; one great-grand daughter, Maddex Zmurchyk, one brother, Doug (Louise) Legate and family; and three step-daughters, Joan (Bruce) Philip, Madelaine (Clarke) Carson and Barb (Lee) Sloan and their families. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert Banister in 1991; and her parents, Rupert and Cora Legate. Margaret was born on April 25, 1922 in Owen Sound, Ontario where she was also raised. She attended Queen's University where she met Dr. Stanley C. James and they were married in 1945 and then moved to Calgary. In 1947, they moved to Medicine Hat where Stan started his optometric practice. Stan passed away in February of 1980. Margaret later married Dr. Bob Banister in December of 1984 and they moved to Red Deer where she continued to reside until the time of her passing. Margaret was a member of the Fifth Avenue United Church Ladies Circle, I.O.D.E. and the Medicine Hat Curling Club and also volunteered her time with Meals-on-Wheels. A private graveside service will be held in Hillside Cemetery on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 with Gary W. Goran officiating. A Celebration of Margaret's Life will be held in the Grandstand Banquet Room, on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 beginning at 12:30 pm with lunch to be included.
