Bertha GLASS

November 26, 2005

GLASS Bertha Glass (nee Marquardson) at peace at last, following a lengthy battle with dementia, Mom passed away at St. Michael's Health Centre on November 23, 2005 at the age of 98 years. Bertha was born on April 22, 1907, eldest and only daughter of Fanny and Elmer Marquardson of Stirling, Alberta. She is survived by her daughter Roberta “Bobbi” Lynne (Dave) Harvey; grandsons Norman (Janet) Turtle and Paul (Debbie) Turtle and their children Keegan, Kirstin and Conley. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Fran Marquardson, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her five brothers: Joel, Arthur, Truman, Eugene and Hubert and her husband Stanley Glass. Teaching was mom’s passion. She began her 43 year career as a teenager. Following her grade 11 she attended Calgary Normal School and then later obtained her BA Degree from the University of Alberta. She taught in several one room rural schools until she taught in Rimbey for 16 years and then ended her career at Lindsay Thurber High School in Red Deer. Many summers were spent preparing and marking grade 9 and grade 12 departmental exams. She amazed many with her carpentry skills. With few tools she built furniture, kitchen cupboards and other home renovation projects. She also liked to sew clothing for herself, daughter, grandsons, great grandchildren and Barbie and Cabbage Patch Dolls. Highlights of her summer in Red Deer were her annual visits with her grandsons Norman and Paul. At the age of 74, along with her little dog, Midget, she moved to Lethbridge. Here she enjoyed volunteering with the Adult Day Care and playing Bridge at the Seniors Center. The family extends a huge THANK YOU to the staff at St. Michael's Health Centre, particularly the PCA’s of Livingstone House, for their excellent care and kindness during mom’s many years of residence. A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Monday November 28, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Larry Hankinson officiating.
