BRAAK Mrs. Sylvia Braak of Lacombe passed away on January 5, 2008 at the age of 80. She was born in Tzum, Friesland, Holland on November 26, 1927 and grew up in Harlingen. Sylvia met Peter Braak and they were married on March 2, 1950, emigrating to Canada in April. They initially settled in Picture Butte, Alberta but moved around for several years before finally settling on the acreage in Lacombe in October 1968. Lacombe has been their home ever since. Sylvia loved her family, friends, and above all, God. Her motto in life was "If you place God first in your life, everything will fall into place". She enjoyed singing in the choir, flowers, bowling with the ladies, knitting and just keeping busy with her hands. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Peter Braak; daughter, Jeane Wierenga, grandchildren Rocky, Shealagh (Tim), Roy, Tamara; daughter Myna (Paul) Humphrey, grandchildren, Nathan, Preston, Rhamona; daughter Dorothy (Dennis) Sjolie, grandchild Tasheena; son, Cor (Cindy) Braak, grandchildren, Jason, Valerie; son-in-law Melvin Dolman, grandchildren, Sharlene, Michael, Dianna; son André Braak, grandchildren Anthony, Matthew, Amanda, Michelle; son John (Ingrid) Braak, grandchildren, Chad, Travis; great grandchildren Madeline, Aiden, Drew; brother Dick Dykstra of Holland and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Henry Wierenga (2007), daughter Marjorie Dolman (2001), daughter-in-law Nancy Braak (2000), grandsons Ryan (1987) and Jessie (2005), 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Sylvia will be lovingly remembered and lovingly missed. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodynook Christian Reformed Church.
