BRACKNEY

February 1, 2006

BRACKNEY It is with great sadness the family announces that Alice Brackney has passed away at the Olds Hospital and Long Term Care Centre on Friday, January 27, 2006 at the age of 90 years. Alice (nee: Tomlinson) was born in Vancouver, BC on April 2, 1915 and spent her youth in Calgary. After the loss of both her parents, Alice enrolled in the Calgary General Hospitals School of Nursing and graduated in 1942. While in training she nursed a special patient, Harold. On July 28, 1943 Alice married Harold Brackney while he was on leave in Vancouver, BC. Together they returned to Alberta to farm in the Poplar Ridge District before moving into Red Deer to raise their family. Alice nursed for many years at the Red Deer Nursing Home prior to her retirement. Alice and Harold enjoyed camping and fishing in the west country, time spent with family, and their grandchildren. After losing Harold, Alice spent many happy times at the Kerry Wood Nature Center, the Golden Circle and traveling near and far. She loved her garden, delighting in the fruits, birds and creatures that visited her there. Alice moved to Olds to live with her daughter in 1999 and has resided there since. She is survived by her loving daughter, Kathleen Brackney (Harold Heisler); three grandsons, Steven (Jess) Brackney, Christopher Brackney and James Brackney as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by her devoted husband Harold in 1985, her only son “Red” in 1980, as well as her dear sister “Kitty” (at the age of 107) in August of 2005. A Funeral Service for the late Alice Brackney will be held from Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67A Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Lewis officiating. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, 350 Michael Cowpland Drive, Kanata, ON K2M 2W1. Sympathies can be forwarded to the family at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. In living memory of the Late Alice Brackney, a tree will be planted in the Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium Memorial Tree Park, Red Deer County.
