FIELDING, Bridget Mary

The Fielding family and friends are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Bridget passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2017 after 85 years of well-lived life. She was predeceased by her loving husband Herbert and cherished daughter Christine, but will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Helen, son Paul, son-in-law John, daughter-in-law Jenn and her two grandchildren, Harley and Zander, along with her many friends.
Bridget Pratt was born in London, England where she lived through the blitz and war rationing, and graduated from The University of Hull in 1952 with a degree in languages. She found herself in love with a young lawyer, Herbert Fielding, whom she married in 1961. Soon after, they boarded a ship bound for a new life in Canada, ending up in Red Deer, where Bridget raised her three children, the joy of her life. Once they were reasonably independent, she decided to fulfill her dream of being first a social worker and then a family therapist, which started with studies at the Red Deer College, the University of Calgary and Loma Linda University. Along the way she worked as the Director of Catholic Family Services, founded The Boat, a drop-in Centre, was on the CAWES Board, and ran her own Family Therapy practice. In addition to caring for her family and pursuing her career, Bridget took every opportunity possible to travel the world, visiting Mongolia, Thailand, Israel, Guatemala and much of Europe. We will miss her greatly.
A mass will be held for Bridget at St. Mary's Church, 6 McMillan Ave. starting at 1:00 pm on Saturday February 18. All are welcome. Following the service, a wake will be held at the Rusty Pelican Restaurant, 2079 50th Ave. starting at about 2:30pm. Memorial gifts in Bridget's name may be made to the Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter:
