CALVERT

March 3, 2008

CALVERT C. Delbert Calvert of Innisfail passed away on February 27, 2008 at the age of 83 years. Delbert was born on August 14, 1924 in Innisfail to William and Amelia Calvert. He was the fifth of six children. Delbert was raised and lived most of his life in the Calder District, east of Innisfail. In 1948, Delbert purchased land across the road from his parents farm and started to build his own farm, the farm that Colleen and Tim own today. In 1950, Delbert married Dorothy Bateman. Hand in hand they farmed and enjoyed being very involved in the Calder District. Delbert and Dorothy adopted 2 children, Charlie in 1964 and Colleen in 1966. Sadly, the family was involved in a car accident in 1972 and Charlie was killed. After recuperating from his injuries, Delbert returned to the farm where he, Dorothy and Colleen shared much happiness. In 2000, Dorothy and Delbert moved into Innisfail. It was an opportunity to make new friends but to cherish the friendships already made. Spending time with family and friends brought much happiness to Delbert. His days were made brighter with a quick visit from a friend, time spent fishing or playing cards, dancing with the love of his life, sharing a giggle with his granddaughters or being given an opportunity to tease or enjoy a good joke. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Innisfail, daughter Colleen (Tim) of Innisfail; granddaughters Avery and Kaylyn; sister Elsie Moffat; brother Joe (Marion) and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his son Charlie in 1972, brother Gordon in 2006, sister Ellen White in 2005; brother Lewis in 1998 and his parents William and Amelia. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 11:00am from the Innisfail United Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church or to the Sunnybrook Farm Museum Calder Project. Condolences to the family may be forwarded from www.mem.com.
