CUNNINGHAM, Captain Perry Cunningham, OMM, CD, Retired. Perry Melvin Cunningham born 28 Feb, 1928 in Lethbridge, AB, moved to Red Deer, AB in 1939, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2006 in Vernon, BC. Perry is predeceased by his parents Margaret and Melvin Cunningham of Red Deer. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Betty of Vernon, BC; sister Joan (Jim) Sullivan of Calgary, AB and nephew Gregory (Dianne) Lee of North Vancouver, BC; his first wife Marty Cunningham of Comox, BC and mother of his children; Chris (Jennifer) Cunningham and daughter Maggie of Pinantan Lake, BC;  Michael Cunningham and son Kyle and daughters Kristal and Kalinda of Sylvan Lake, AB; and Cathy (Eric Mikkola) Cunningham of Coquitlam, BC. Perry grew up in Red Deer and was a member of the RCAF/CAF from 1951-1973.  He served as a Sabre pilot in 2(F) Wing in Grostequin, France, OFU in St Hubert, QB and STS in Edmonton. AB.  He flew helicopters (his love) for 426 Search and Rescue Sqn at Chatham, NB, 448 Test Sqn Cold Lake, AB, 424 Search and Rescue Sqn Trenton, ON and 442 Search and Rescue Sqn Comox, BC. Perry was part of many rescue missions and was also awarded the Order of Military Merit for his bravery. He was also featured in the National Geographic Magazine in an article regarding Arctic survival techniques. No service by request, a celebration of life will take place with his family in April in Vernon, BC. Dad, it is now time to soar again with the eagles, we know it is where you are the happiest… this time you never have to land. Love Chris, Mike and Cathy.
