CARNEY Mr. Iorwerth Francis ‘Iori’ Carney, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Gweneth Carney of Red Deer, passed away after a brief but valiant struggle at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the age of 84 years. Iori was born on November 6, 1921 at Bala, North Wales, United Kingdom. He served his country with the R.A.F. in World War II, during which time he received a D.F.M. (Distinguished Flying Medal) for his service. In 1950, he married the love of his life, Gweneth Carney. In 1957, Iori left Great Britain and came to Canada. Iori was a caring man and a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Iori’s vibrant sense of humour made an adventure out of every conversation he participated in. Iori’s kindness, patience and understanding manner over the years in teaching his son and grandchildren will never be forgotten. He was a truly admirable man in very many ways. Iori was very devoted to his church and was an active member in St. Leonard’s On The Hill Anglican Church for many, many years. He faithfully served as a Lay Reader for the Parish of St. Leonard’s and The Diocese of Calgary. Iori was deeply concerned for the families of the church and devoted in offering his help to them. Iori was an active member of the Downtown Rotary Club of Red Deer, an Alderman for the City of Red Deer and he worked as Chief Probation Officer with the Government of Alberta. Our dear father, grandfather and trusted friend, Iori will be very sadly missed but lovingly remembered and always admired for his faithful and kind spirit, his trusted strength and wisdom and his dedication to serve others. Iori leaves to mourn his loss, his loving son, Stephen of Canmore, Alberta and his special grandchildren, Kate, Julia and Sam, also of Canmore, as well as family and friends in the United Kingdom. Iori was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gweneth Carney in May of this year. A Public Celebration of Iori’s Life will be held at St. Leonard’s On The Hill Anglican Church, 4241 – 44th Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation entrusted to the Central Alberta Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Interment will be held at the Hillsdown Cemetery.
