Cecilia LAVOIE

LAVOIE Cecilia Lavoie of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Nursing Home on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the age of 89 years. Cecilia was born near Beiseker, Alberta on August 14, 1915, to Josephine and Ignatz Hagel, the eleventh of fourteen children. It was also there that she later met and married Wilfred Lavoie with whom she shared 60 years of married life. Cecilia and Fred raised six children while operating the local butcher business. In 1968 they moved to Red Deer where Cecilia worked in a drapery business and later with the housekeeping department at the Red Deer General Hospital. Cecilia was a long-standing member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Catholic Women’s League and will be remembered as a hard worker, good neighbour and kind friend. She was a woman of great faith and will be sadly missed by her children, Leonard (Barbara) Lavoie of Spruce Grove, Francis (Connie) Lavoie of Red Deer, Janet (John) Thompson of Waterloo, Ont., Gerald Lavoie of Campbell River, B.C., Valerie (Ken) Olesen of Red Deer, and James Lavoie of Edmonton, as well as by thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Cecilia was predeceased by her husband Wilfred in 1996, as well as by six brothers and seven sisters. A Prayer Vigil will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (5508 – 48A Avenue, Red Deer) on Monday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m., with Sister Lynn Rouleau, presiding, followed by Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 31, at 10:30 a.m., with the Reverend Father Don Stein, celebrant. Interment to follow at Alto-Reste Cemetery in Red Deer.
