Charlie HUBSCHMID

HUBSCHMID Charlie Hubschmid of Bowden, passed into glory on June 1, 2006 at the age of 75 years at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton. Charlie was the fourth of five children born to Swiss immigrants, Ernst and Bertha Hubschmid on September 1, 1930 at home in the Sandhills district near Spruce Grove. In 1948, a family named Clark immigrated from New York to a farm in the Sandhills district with a pretty blond girl named Gladys. Charlie and his sister, Lillian became best friends with Gladys. Charlie and Gladys were married July 11, 1953 in Edmonton. Charlie had a long career in the oil industry beginning with Northwell Operators in Devon in 1948, transferring to Innisfail in 1960 with White Rose and retiring with Shell in Innisfail in 1988. An avid horseman, he spent many years in the Arabian horse industry. Charlie loved his Lord, his wife, his family, country and community. He was actively involved in the Bowden Evangelical Missionary Church. Throughout his life he was also involved in Bowden Minor Hockey, Bowden Historical Society and the Canadian Arabian Horse Registry. Charlie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gladys; daughter Kathy (Steve) Reynolds and their children Aaryn (Mark) Manning, Carmen (Jose) Fuentes, Jonathan, Michael and Mark Reynolds; son David (Lori) Hubschmid; son Brian (Carol) Hubschmid and their children Ian and Scott Hubschmid; son Kenton (Debbie) Hubschmid and their children Clayton and Thomas Hubschmid; one great-grandson Benjamiin Fuentes; brother Walter Hubschmid; two sisters Margaret (Alfred) Arnstron and family and Lillian (Dwayne) Olsen and family as well as numerous relatives and friends world wide. He was predeceased by his brother, Ernie Hubschmid in 1981. The family would like to thank the medical professionals in the Olds Hospital, Red Deer ICU and U of A Hospital in Edmonton for care far and above the call of duty. We would also like to thank all those providing ongoing care for Gladys who is residing in the Olds Hospital Long Term Care. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bowden Lions Hall with Pastor Lynn Dietz officiating. Memorial donations may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta. As a tribute to Charlie Hubschmid, a tree will be planted in the Heartland Tree Memorial Park, Olds.
