COATES 1920-2008 Ritson Glenville "Glen" Coates passed away March 24, 2008 at the Red Deer Hospice with his family by his side. Glen was born to Ritson and Annie Margarite on August 8, 1920 at Ashmont, AB. Glen grew up in the Waskatenau area along with his seven brothers. He served in Europe in the armed forces between 1941 and 1946. When Glen returned from the war, he purchased land in the Springvale District. In 1947, Glen married Margaret (Peggy) Hopkins and they operated a dairy farm until he retired in 1973 moving to Victoria, BC. Later they moved to Port Alberni, BC to be closer to their daughter Carol and her family. In 1993 they moved back to Alberta. Glen loved to walk, curl, watch all sports, play cards and has the title of "Cribbage Champion" in the family. He also loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Glen is survived by Peggy his dedicated and loving wife of 60 years; two sons, Lloyd (Elaine) of Rimbey, AB and David (Cheryl) of Red Deer, AB; two daughters, Sherry (Larry) McArthur of Red Deer, AB and Carol (Larry) Kozuback of Port Alberni, BC; nine grandchildren; and ten great- grandchildren. Glen's memory will also be cherished by his brothers; George, Howard (Bernice), Allan (Barb) all of Edmonton, Cecil of Vancouver, BC, Neil (Florence) of Red Deer, AB as well as his sister-in-laws, Lucille of Red Deer, AB and Muriel of Edmonton, AB. Glen was predeceased by his parents, Ritson and Margarite and brothers, Don and Clifford. A Celebration of Glen's Life will be held on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Red Deer Branch #35, 2810 Bremner Avenue, Red Deer, AB with Pastor Richard Duffin officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of the late Glen Coates to the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6 Condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. In living memory of Ritson "Glen" Coates a tree will be planted in the Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium Memorial Tree Park in Red Deer County, AB.
