Corrie LEENSTRA

LEENSTRA Corrie Leenstra of Lacombe passed away at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre on April 15, 2008 at the age of 54 years. She was born July 8,1953 in Elst, the Netherlands, the fourth child of Anco and Anna Hamming. The family immigrated to Canada (Prince Edward Island) in April 1958. She attended the Meadow Bank School, Queen Charlotte Junior High and Charlottetown Rural Regional High School. Corrie worked for two years then attended Dordt College, Sioux Centre, Iowa from 1973 - 1977. She taught grade two at Lacombe Christian School from 1977 - 1983. Corrie was united in marriage to the love of her life Fred Leenstra on August 1, 1980. She was very proud of her three children: Michael Fred, Emily Anne, and Bradley Simeon. She returned to work at Lacombe Christian School: September 1989 - December 2005. She was full of life and her hobbies included reading, gardening, hiking, camping, cross stitching, knitting and talking on the phone to family and friends. She also loved playing board games with her family. Corrie and Fred were thrilled to welcome Danielle Gillard to the family as Mike's wife and welcomed the birth of Ethan David with open arms. She is survived by her loving husband Fred and their children and grandson, her mom Anna Hamming, siblings Kees (Ena), Bram (Willy), Anne (Jack), Gerry (Jill), Trudy (Gerard), her father and mother-in-law Simon and Henny Leenstra, Fred's siblings Dorothy (Harvey), Edna (Andy), Linda, Elroy (Arlene), Caroline (John), Cheryl (Claire), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Anco in November 2003. A Memorial service of Celebration will be held at the Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church on Monday April 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the Wolf Creek Community Church Box 5072, Lacombe, AB T4L 1W7, the Gospel for Asia 245 King St. East, Stoney Creek, Ontario L8G 1L9 or to the Canadian Cancer Society 4730A Ross St. Red Deer, AB T4N 1X2.
